Quasi-isothermal gas compression and expansion creates a real opportunity for cost effective energy storage at the multi-megawatt scale in existing geological structures. Shipstone has a well advanced solution which has been demonstrated as working at large scale.  Round trip efficiencies of over 76% at power levels in the 100kW to 500kW range have already been achieved.
